England Netball is delighted to announce the second set of nominees for the 2017 Vitality Netball Superleague Awards, which will be presented for the first time at the illustrious Goalden Globes Awards.
Vitality Player of the Season (determined by league sponsors Vitality)
Natalie Haythornthwaite – Haythornthwaite brought accuracy, creativity and versatility to a talented Wasps team. She maintained a level-headed approach throughout the season and displayed an indomitable spirit.
Bongiwe Msomi – The South Africa international proved a valuable asset to new franchise Wasps Netball. Quick, accurate and strong in both attack and defence, the dynamic mid-courter exuded energy, enthusiasm and talent throughout the season.
Peace Proscovia – Proscovia struck terror into the hearts of Superleague defenders in 2017 and helped fire Loughborough Lightning to the top of the table. She dominated in the circle and displayed her shooting prowess by winning the Gilbert Netball Goalden Shot Award after netting a whopping 812 goals.
Beth Cobden – After a year out, Cobden returned to the Superleague and certainly made her mark. The England mid-courter put in numerous eye-catching performances, highlighting her supreme skill level, focus and work ethic. She was integral to Loughborough Lightning’s rise to the top of the table in the regular season.
Gabby Marshall – Mid-courter Marshall was steely, committed and ambitious in 2017, continuing her impressive development in the Superleague. She was also vice-captain of the bronze-medal winning Young Roses at the Netball World Youth Cup, displaying professionalism and maturity in stepping up to coach the side in the absence of the team’s coaches.
Layla Guscoth – Tenacious and formidable, Guscoth displayed individual moments of brilliance – including 54 intercepts – as well as being at the heart of the Superleague’s best defensive unit with Eboni Beckford-Chambers in 2017.
Players Player of the Season (voted for by all VNSL players)

Kathryn Turner – Turner has been a real stalwart in the Manchester Thunder team and was one of the most consistent and reliable players in 2017. She formed strong shooting partnerships with both Joyce Mvula and Amy Clinton and sunk a number of audacious, long shots.
Young Player of the Season (voted for by teams)
Imogen Allison – Allison enjoyed a breakthrough season for Team Bath. The 19-year-old started regularly at wing defence and was part of the Superleague’s best defensive unit with Eboni Beckford-Chambers and Layla Guscoth. Allison continued her fine form at the Netball World Youth Cup, helping the Young Roses to a bronze medal.
Sophie Drakeford-Lewis – Drakeford-Lewis made her Superleague debut in London Live at the Copper Box Arena. The talented youngster played with real maturity and certainly didn’t look out of place. She finished the season as Hertfordshire Mavericks’ second-highest scorer with 284 goals and then shone on the international stage at the Netball World Youth Cup.
Vicki Oyesola – Oyesola got her Loughborough Lightning career off to the perfect start, making a winning debut on the opening round of the season and being named Most Valuable Player. The England U21 international displayed real composure and tenacity on court and was part of the bronze medal winning Young Roses squad at the Netball World Youth Cup.
Vitality Netball Superleague All Star VII
After a stellar season with countless standout performers, each team has been given the tricky task of selecting their Vitality Netball Superleague All Star VII. Teams have had to pick out who they think was the best player in each position but weren’t allowed to vote for their own players. The players in each position who received the most votes will make up the All Star VII, which will be revealed on the night.
The winners will be announced on Saturday 16th September at the National Conference Centre, Birmingham.
