We have officially signed up to the OpenActive initiative, which is supported by Sport England and delivered by the Open Data Institute (ODI).
OpenActive is a community-led initiative that helps the sport sector open up data that shares when and where activities are taking place, making it easier for people to find sessions near to them.
More than 400 netball sessions take place each week as part of our participation programmes, and they are now available to view via data.englandnetball.co.uk as part of England Netball’s agreement with OpenActive.
Chris Lillistone, Insight Manager at England Netball, said: “We are extremely excited to be involved in the OpenActive Initiative, which will improve access for everyone to find opportunities to play netball and get more active. With an average of 400 netball sessions available every week, we welcome the chance to increase our reach to people who might not otherwise consider netball, or look for netball sessions on our website.
“More than 100,000 women have signed up to take part in our flagship participation programme; Back to Netball, which first began 10 years ago. We hope that the OpenActive initiative will help us to continue to build on this number and get more people playing and benefiting from the sport.”
Richard Norris, OpenActive Programme Manager, said: “We’re delighted that England Netball have chosen to join a growing range of organisations publishing their timetables and opportunities as part of OpenActive. A wider choice of activities means that individuals are more likely to find the right opportunity for them, making it more likely that they will get active.
“As innovators and national campaigns use this data, England Netball will be able to reach a new audience.”
