This week in netball: week 9

Over the last week, people have been using social media as a tool to get their netball fix.

The Netball Family have found innovative ways to stay connected during this time through shooting challenges, home workout tips and sharing positive stories online.

We have pulled together the best bits shared on social media from the last seven days.

A back flipping Bee Netballer

From a downloadable tea party set to Obee poems and even a special obstacle course set by Gary Neville, social media was a hive of Bee Netball activity for all our U11s and their families on World Bee Day (Wednesday 20th May).

Feeling inspired, Esmee from Tameside Netball Club took the Nevilles’ skill challenge to the next level with a spectacular back flip finale!

All junior members (and their guardians) have also been emailed an exclusive Bee@Home Action Pack full of exciting activities to do at home or in the garden.

There was also a successful mini-series of webinars for teachers to help bring Bee Netball to life in schools.

“Don’t drop the ball on your mental health”

Monday 18th – Sunday 24th May was Mental Health Awareness Week and saw the launch of Sport in Mind’s latest campaign: “don’t drop the ball on your mental health”.

To reinforce this message of making sure you’re looking after your mental wellbeing during these uncertain times, the challenge was simply to complete 10 keepie uppies before nominating others as a reminder.

Emotions of a netballer

This year’s theme for Mental Health Awareness Week, in response to the coronavirus outbreak, was kindness.

The togetherness and unwavering support of the Netball Family towards one another is second to none.

Over on Instagram Stories, netballers – including Vitality Roses Eleanor Cardwell and Laura Malcolm – engaged with an ‘Emotions of a Netballer’ bingo card created by North Yorkshire Netball Development Officer Beccy Lewis.

Covering a whole spectrum of emotions (from pride to tears), many could relate to and said they had experienced a range of different feelings in netball.

After answering, netballers were encouraged to tag three people who had supported them and their emotions. However, Tyler-Sue said that there were simply too many individuals to choose from as the Netball Family is one big happy family!
