Any Dream We'll Do: Lucy Gash

Back in May 2020, we launched our exciting new initiative ‘Any Dream We’ll Do’ to try and bring a little bit of happiness and hope to the Netball Family during lockdown.

All you needed to do was nominate a fellow member or group of members, tell us why they would be a worthy winner and most importantly, what you think their netball dream would be.

Our Dream Makers panel received so many entries and have started to work their magic behind the scenes with a number of very special surprises!

Lucy Gash, who is the Sister in charge of the Phoenix Unit Chemotherapy Department at Sunderland Royal and player for Shooting Stars North Durham, is the latest winner of our ‘Any Dream We’ll Do’ initiative.

She was nominated by Karen Donkin, and speaking about Lucy, they said: “She always goes above and beyond for her patients and her team working additional hours and unfortunately for the team, having to miss a number of netball matches!

“At the end of January she was successful in organising and hosting the Fire and Ice Ball on behalf of the Phoenix Unit raising a huge sum of money towards the Bright Red and St Benedicts charities.

“Lucy shows commitment in more way than one especially during the current pandemic, still working to full capacity during staff shortages and keeping the unit going, making sure patients and her team are kept safe during this time.

“Lucy has recently found out she is pregnant with her first baby which is some wonderful news during such a strange time.

“I believe she more than deserves some recognition for her efforts and hopefully this nomination is little thank you for everything she does for everyone. She gives everything to netball, she is the one who organises everything for everyone, we wouldn’t be where we are without her.”

Here’s what happened when Lucy received a surprise call from a familiar face…
