Vitality Rose George Fisher signs for Southern Steel in ANZ Premiership

Vitality Rose George Fisher has signed for Southern Steel ahead of the 2021 ANZ Premiership season.

The 21-year-old leaves Vitality Netball Superleague (VNSL) side Saracens Mavericks to embark on her new adventure in New Zealand.

The goal shooter began her netball career in the Mavericks Pathway systems with the U19 NPL squad and eventually earning a VNSL debut in the 2015/16 season.

A hugely successful two years with Wasps Netball followed as Fisher broke into the starting seven and scored almost 600 goals in 2018 on the way to a second consecutive VSNL title with the Midlands outfit.

She then returned to Saracens Mavericks ahead of the 2019 campaign and won the inaugural Vitality Player of the Month Award as her side finished January as the league’s highest scorers and she registered a sensational 98% shooting success rate in the second game of the season – only missing one shot out of the 44 she took.

After the news of her move to Southern Steel was announced, Saracens Mavericks shared a video message from Fisher to the Mavericks family…

The goal shooter has been part of the England Netball setup since the age of 14, making her senior debut at 19 after several years of representing her country at the likes of U21 Netball Europe and the Netball World Youth Cup in 2017, where she won a bronze medal.

Fisher currently has 12 caps for the Vitality Roses, having played in series against both Jamaica and Uganda in 2018.

She was also part of England’s Fast5 World Series squad in Australia in the same year.

More recently, she helped Jess Thirlby’s side clinch the 2019 three-match away test series against South Africa and played in every game as the Vitality Roses claimed bronze at the Vitality Netball Nations Cup.
