Run by the NSPCC Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU), Parents in Sport Week aims to highlight the important role parents play in youth sport, from helping to keep children safe, to encouraging them to take part and achieve.
As part of the campaign, the CPSU are asking sports parents to make the Sports Parents Promise – a three-point pledge to their children to listen to them about their concerns, check clubs are safe to enjoy, and encourage their children to take part in a positive way.
They hope this will help parents to understand how their contribution to their child’s sport makes it a safer place for all children.
Discussing Parents in Sport Week, England Netball Compliance Manager Marc Scott said: “I am delighted to be supporting the NSPCC’s Parents in Sport Week.
“Netball parents play a vital role in supporting their children in our sport, which can place some specific stresses on young players.
“Through this campaign we want parents to feel they have somewhere to go for their questions on their role, and create the right environment to keep young netball players in the sport.”
In an article originally published for Parents in Sport Week in 2019, one netball dad shared his experiences of daddy-daughter shooting practice and how the sport brought him closer to his daughter.
