This October England Netball will be celebrating Black History Month, where we will be introducing and celebrating brilliant Black members of the Netball Family who play a valuable part in making our sport what it is.

Recognised in the UK since 1987, the month of action provides an opportunity for people come together and to discuss, understand and celebrate the impact of Black heritage and culture to our everyday lives and the world we live in today.

Last year England Netball celebrated Black History Month by speaking to a series of fantastic Black women about their life within the sport. Stories were shared by those who contribute across the whole of the game from players to coaches, grassroots participants and administrative staff. You can still access those features here.

Our celebration of Black members of the Netball Family did not end with Black History Month, however, as we have continued to highlight the many Black icons and valuable volunteers in our sport throughout the year. Like many sports, it is vital that netball reflects on the diverse nature of our own community and understands the vast contribution made by Black netball players, coaches, officials and supporters that has shaped the game we all love.

As Black History Month returns, we will once again hear members’ stories from the past and present which will continue to help guide the future of netball, a game that we all want to be inclusive, welcoming and a place for everyone to belong. Keep an eye across our social media platforms this month to find out more.
