Volunteers’ Week 2023: Celebrating and Inspiring the Netball Family

Volunteers’ Week (1-7 June) is a time for us to come together and give an extra special thank you to all volunteers for their invaluable contributions enriching lives through netball.

England Netball simply would not exist without volunteers with most of the 2,500+ clubs, several hundred leagues, 53 counties and nine regions organised by netball volunteers, who give a huge amount of time and energy freely to our sport.

Following 18 months of uncertainty and challenges, a network of over 2,500 COVID-19 Officers, 800 of whom were not already involved as volunteers, played a critical role in enabling the Netball Family to return to court in their thousands this season.

As we continue on our #NewAdventure and look to take our sport to new and exciting heights over the coming years, the passion, support and expertise of volunteers will continue to be crucial.

United by their commitment and love for netball, an estimated 26,000 people volunteer across a variety of different disciplines at every level of the game.

From coaching and officiating to leading counties and regions, supporting events or facilitating netball sessions, plus much more, all make significant and invaluable contributions to lead a movement on and beyond the court. Listen to the stories of some volunteers here.

This week and every week, there are so many people within the netball community to be proud of and thank.

To help celebrate all year round, we’ve created a bespoke set of assets for the Netball Family to use which includes editable templates to share a sentence about, and show your appreciation for, a volunteer (or volunteers). Create a personalised graphic here.

You can also share a story you want us to showcase via The Huddle – a platform to shine a spotlight on and inspire the amazing individuals that make the sport as special as it is.

With this year’s Thank You Day falling on the same day as the Vitality Netball Superleague Grand Final, we’ll be taking a moment in venue during the event to honour our fantastic volunteers.

The achievements of volunteers across the country are also currently being celebrated at the nine regional ONE Awards with England Netball members having been nominated by their peers for awards.

The winners from each region will then be invited to a national event, sponsored by Vitality, held towards the end of the year.

A huge thank you to all the netball volunteers across the country!
