Nominations open for the ONE Awards 2024

Nominations are now open for you to recognise the incredible people in your region that have changed your life – or someONE you know’s life – in netball via the ONE Awards.

The ONE Awards are a series of events delivered by Regional Netball Boards (groups of volunteers who support the delivery of community netball) and England Netball to recognise and celebrate the amazing people who volunteer and make netball happen, through varying roles like officiating, coaching, administration, supporting school netball activity, clubs and local leagues, or helping drive inclusion and reaching new audiences in netball.

There are 10 categories that will be considered at a regional level* with nominees required to be an individual member of England Netball for all awards apart from the Inclusion Award:

  • Coach of the Year – Children & Young People
  • Coach of the Year – Adults
  • Community Official of the Year (in honour of Sheelagh Redpath)
  • Outstanding Contribution of the Year (in memory of Mary Bulloch)
  • Pioneer(s) of the Year (in memory of Muriel McNally)
  • Unsung Hero of the Year (in a Club or League)
  • Community Club of the Year

Nominations for Yorkshire will close on Friday 26 April with nominations for all other regions closing on Wednesday 15 May then nominated individuals will be invited to one of nine regional ONE Awards events taking place across the country in June and July 2024. You can see the event date for your region here.

Following these events, winners from each category across the nine regions will be reviewed by a national panel, led by EN President Joan Mills, and invited to a national event that will take place in autumn 2024.

1,400 people attended regional and national events in 2023 – enjoy looking back at last year’s star-studded national event below.

When the awards, formerly known as the Goalden Globe Awards, were introduced in 2005, they averaged around 250 nominations annually. Fast forward to 2023, there were over 1,000 nominations – and the aim is to better that number this year!

Having listened to feedback from the Netball Family on how to improve our nominations phase, we’ve provided more clarity on the criteria for both the Outstanding Contribution of the Year (in memory of Mary Bulloch) and Pioneer(s) of the Year (in memory of Muriel McNally) categories. You can view all the details for the awards here.

In addition, 2024 National Judging Panel member and former Vitality Roses captain Serena Kersten (née Guthrie) has recorded a short top tips video to ensure you give your nominee(s) the nomination they deserve – watch it here.

Netball simply wouldn’t happen without the time, energy and talent of brilliant volunteers across the country so help us recognisethe ONEs everywhere by nominating someONE who makes a difference thanks to their commitment and welcoming approach to your experiences on and beyond the court.
