On Sunday 17 March, England Netball supported the Look Good Feel Better Charity Netball Tournament for the fifth year running.
The event, run by cancer support charity Look Good Feel Better, brought over 200 netball players together to participate in an action-packed day of matches, whilst raising over £32,000 to help to support people living with cancer.
Look Good Feel Better are a cancer support charity who run free workshops for people living with cancer across the UK. These workshops are led by trained volunteers in the beauty and health industries, and they provide practical advice about the changes to skin, eyebrows, eyelashes, nails and hair which can affect the body image of people living with cancer. They also provide guidance on meditation, breathwork, and gentle exercise, all whilst giving people living with cancer the opportunity to meet and share experiences with others in a similar situation.
This is the fifth year that the charity has worked with England Netball as the event delivery partner, and the tournament continues to grow bigger and better each year.
This year’s tournament was held over three courts at the University of Warwick Sports & Wellness Hub and it saw 26 teams competing across three different divisions: social, competitive and mixed gender.
Former England Netball captain and Commonwealth Games 2018 gold medallist Ama Agbeze hosted the tournament along with Future Roses Ash Dekker and Millie Sanders. All three players provided plenty of coaching expertise, enthusiasm, and encouragement throughout the day, even including a few appearances on court to help out the competing teams!
The high-quality facilities and world-class coaching expertise were appreciated by all 26 competing teams who put out some fantastic performances on the day. A huge congratulations to Up Shot Creek, winners of the competitive female-only division, Black Magic winners of the social female-only division and Phoenix MNC winners of the mixed division.
Adding to the excitement, headline sponsors, Collection Cosmetics, which produces high-quality products at an affordable price, welcomed everyone with a free bottle of water and held give-aways throughout the day.
One participant summed up the event and their experience: “I just wanted to say we absolutely loved the tournament day yesterday! It’s the first time we have attended your tournament and for some of the team the first time they have taken part in a tournament at all. It was so well organised, the venue was great and we just loved everything about the day. We will most definitely be signing up for next year!
“Thanks for putting the event together and raising money for such an amazing charity. I have secondary breast cancer myself and I am so very grateful for charities like yours, so thank you!”
Future Roses player Ash Dekker said: “What a privilege to be part of raising money for Look Good Feel Better who have supported so many men and women in their cancer journeys.
“I loved how competitive the tournament was and there was some great netball on show. It was also evident how passionate the players were about contributing to a life changing cause.
“I couldn’t be happier the total raised was over £32,000! A testament to a successful and thoroughly enjoyable day.”
Lizzie Cooper, Look Good Feel Better’s Senior Fundraising Manager, said: “The Charity Netball Tournament was a huge success in bringing together netball enthusiasts from all over the UK to compete, have a great day and meet with professional athletes.
“This year marks our charity’s 30th anniversary and we have supported over 200,000 individuals over this time. Our services are needed now more than ever before with an estimated three million people living with cancer in the UK.
“We’d like to thank everyone who took part in the day for their commitment and enthusiasm, helping us to help people face cancer with more confidence.”
