Formal learning is an important part of the coach development process but research shows that informal learning, working with other coaches and ‘learning on the job’ is also crucial. This overall approach encapsulates the 70:20:10 model for learning and development, where individuals obtain 70% of their knowledge from job-related experiences, 20% from interactions with others and 10% from formal education events. England Netball is committed to expanding its suite of opportunities in line with this model to help the ongoing support and development of our coaches.
Underpinning all this is our Netball Coaching Heartbeat – a set of coaching principles that we would like all our netball coaching family to adopt when delivering great coaching experiences across the game. When forming these principles we took inspiration from the words that YOU, our coaches, have used to describe great coaching as well as other crucial research across the coaching industry.
