Last week guest blogger Dannii Titmuss and England Netball Performance Pathway Coach, talked to us about ‘Developing Games Players‘ (if you missed it make sure you check it out!). Dannii shared with us a comprehensive list of games that you could use in your session to Develop Games Players and this one definitely caught our eye! We imagine you may be as intrigued as us so thought we would get the details and share with you.
“Coaches can also develop game sense within players by introducing variations of game play into training sessions. I often start warm ups with a game…”
- There are two teams of even numbers and 1 ball (can be a netball / football / volleyball / basketball / tennis ball).
- The game is played using the boundaries of a netball court.
- One team starts with the ball in their hand or at their feet.
- When the ball is ‘at-feet’, the game is football. When the ball is ‘in-hands’, the game is running netball.
Football Rules
- Teams score by kicking the ball through two cones on the baseline (approximately 4m apart).
- The opposition cannot goal hang (no goalie).
- Teams must make a minimum of 3 passes after a turnover before scoring.
- Teams can gain possession by tackling or intercepting a pass/strike.
Running Netball Rules
- The scoring rule is pre-decided by the coach. Teams score by either scoring a netball goal (footwork, obstruction and contact rule apply in shooting circles) or score by catching the ball over the base line in the circle (attack cannot goal hang and must move over the baseline to receive the pass).
- Teams must make a minimum of 3 passes after a turnover before scoring.
- Teams can gain possession by tagging the ball carrier or intercepting a pass.
- Players cannot tag the ball carrier for the 1st pass out after a turnover.
To change between Football/Running Netball
- The team can choose to have either the ball ‘in-hand’ (running netball) or ball ‘at-feet’ (football) from a re-start or throw in.
- The game changes from football to running netball if the ball is kicked up into the hands of self, team mate or opposition (interception).
- The game changes from running netball to football if the ball touches the floor (whether it is intentional or not).
Fetball can either be played for set amount of time (i.e. 5 minutes), or until a team scores a set amount of points (i.e. 1st team to score 5 goals)
Now that definitely sounds like fun! Do share with us on Facebook or Twitter if you try it with your Netballers, we’d love to hear about it.
Happy Weekend Everyone!
