Applications are now open for England Netball’s Performance Pathway Coach Development programme, which aims to develop the next generation of coaching talent across the country.
Up to 10 high-potential coaches will be selected for the scheme, which first launched in 2019. This year, applications are open to any coach currently working in the England Netball pathway (a Vitality Netball Superleague franchise pathway or a county or satellite academy). England Netball is actively encouraging coaches from diverse backgrounds and ethnically diverse communities to apply to ensure that the coaching talent pathway reflects the diversity of the Vitality Roses players and future Roses.
The programme will run from September 2021 to May 2022 with the aim of helping participants explore the type of coach they want to be, as well as gaining a greater insight into the England Netball pathway. Between September and January, the group will meet online, with the sessions from February being delivered in person. Participants will also be given a free one-year subscription to the UK Coaching Club and will complete two CPD accredited learning modules from the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity.
England Netball Performance Coach Developer Sarah Green won the 2020 UK Coaching Coach Developer of the Year award for her work developing and leading the programme. She said: “The previous programme was fantastic and the coaches really immersed themselves in the experience. I’m so proud of the growth they have made and continue to make and I’m really looking forward to welcoming a new group of coaches on to the programme.
“This year we want to encourage a diverse range of applicants to ensure our coaching pathway is inclusive, accessible, representative and provides opportunities to the many brilliant coaches working in England Netball’s pathway around the country.”
Vladan Dragosavac, England Netball’s Performance Pathway Manager, said: “It is really exciting to be able to announce this year’s Pathway Coach Development programme which will be open to all coaches within the talent pathway programmes for the first time. Our ambition is to establish a talent pathway that consistently delivers an endless supply of outstanding athletes and coaches. We look forward to supporting this group on their coaching journeys.”
Successful applicants will need to demonstrate the following criteria:
- England Netball Level 2 or equivalent Netball qualification
- Currently coaching athletes aged 13–21 in the England Netball Pathway (County/Satellite/Franchise)
- A commitment to personal development and growth, including goal setting
