Margaret Palmer, 71, from Solihull has been nominated for the prestigious Community Award at the Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year Awards 2017 in association with Vitality, in recognition of her exceptional contribution to the local community as a volunteer and coach at the Lyndon Netball Centre Club.
The former head coach of the England under-21s netball squad has been a key member in the West Midlands netball community for more than 40 years, known to even take to the court to play when there are any absentees in local games!
Every Wednesday night, “netball mum” Margaret is present for the club’s training sessions, and at weekends she umpires for all the club’s local matches. It is this dedication and commitment that makes Margaret a commendable nominee for the award.
The Community Award honours individuals who have actively engaged different groups of people within their community through sport.
A public vote for the Community Award is open until Sunday 15 October. To vote for Margaret to win the Community Award, please visit: www.sportswomenoftheyear.com
The winner will be announced on the evening of Thursday 26 October, with the Awards taking place at the Hilton London Bankside hotel.
The awards ceremony will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Sports Action and Sky Sports Mix, a channel available to all Sky TV customers (8pm to 9.30pm).
