England Netball

Margaret Palmer, 71, from Solihull has won the prestigious Community Award at the Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year Awards 2017 in association with Vitality, in recognition of her exceptional contribution to the local community as a volunteer and coach at the Lyndon Netball Centre Club.

The former head coach of the England under-21s netball squad has been a key member in the West Midlands netball community for more than 40 years, known to even take to the court to play when there are any absentees in local games!

Every Wednesday night, “netball mum” Margaret is present for the club’s training sessions, and at weekends she umpires for all the club’s local matches. It is this dedication and commitment that makes Margaret a very worthy winner.

Margaret was announced as the winner at a glittering awards ceremony at the Hilton London Bankside hotel on the evening of Thursday 26 October.
