Netball Family, Izzie needs you! 13-year-old netballer searching for a blood stem cell donor

13-year-old netballer Izzie has been diagnosed with two life-threatening blood disorders and urgently needs a blood stem cell donation. Could you help Izzie?

Every 20 minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with a type of blood cancer. For many blood cancer and blood disorder patients, a blood stem cell transplant from a matching donor is their best, or only, chance of survival.

Unfortunately, finding a matching blood stem cell donor is like finding a needle in a haystack – and only 2% of the UK population are currently on the stem cell register.

This brings us to 13-year-old Izzie.

Last summer, keen netballer Izzie, from Worcestershire, was rushed to the doctors after she began to feel lethargic and developed unexplained bruising on her arms and legs.

After a series of tests, Izzie was diagnosed with two blood disorders including aplastic anaemia, a condition where the body doesn’t produce enough blood cells.

Now, Izzie needs a blood stem cell donation from a matching donor to give her the best chance of survival.

“It was very, very sudden,” said Izzie’s mum, Sally.

“Izzie is a really keen netball player, and it was literally like one weekend she was playing netball, and then the next weekend she developed this unexplainable large bruising.

“There’s no denying these are life-threatening conditions, it’s heart-breaking. Finding a donor would literally change Izzie’s life.”

This brings us to you, our Netball Family.

Blood cancer charity DKMS is currently searching for Izzie’s perfect match to potentially help save her life.

All it takes to join the blood stem cell register is a simple cheek swab and three minutes of your time. By this point, we’re all used to taking COVID-19 tests, and this test is far kinder – it’s just on the cheek!

So, if you are 17-55 and in general good health, request a swab kit to potentially help save the life of Izzie or someone like her.

One cheek swab and three minutes of your time. It’s that easy: https://bit.ly/3B7tVxo
