Netball proved a big hit as North West Girlguiding held their first-ever large scale multi-sport event at Stanley Park, Blackpool on the 12th and 13th May.
North West Netball have been working closely with North West Girlguiding for a couple of years now with the aims of attracting new audiences to netball and engaging with more volunteers.
NW Netball supported the ENERGISE event and were excited to be one of the key sports providers delivering netball taster sessions to groups of girls from girlguiding units from over the region throughout the weekend.
Four members of the North West staff team and a local volunteer from Blackpool Netball Club delivered 10 netball taster sessions over the two days to a total of 470 Girlguiding participants, who ranged from 6 to 14 years old and included Rainbows, Brownies and Guides.
Research carried out on the day revealed that out of the 470 girls who took part, only 48 of these were currently engaged in community netball sessions – hopefully more of them will now be inspired to start playing netball regularly!
The feedback from the event has been very positive and unit leaders have been provided with our local Netball Development Officer contacts to support further within their counties.
We are now excited to be continuing to work closely with North West Girlguiding on their new Sport England funded sports social action project ‘MOTIVATE’. On behalf of North West Netball, we would like to thank North West Girlguiding for inviting us to be part of a great sporting event and thank you to all our staff and volunteer from Blackpool Netball Club, who delivered a series of fantastic sessions over the weekend.
