Last year’s runners-up, Oldham went one better and took home the trophy at the 2019 National Clubs U16 Finals as they overcame Eagles in this year’s final.
Clubs from all over the UK took their U16 squads to Redbridge Leisure Centre between Saturday 5th May and Sunday 5th May to battle it out to be crowned the best in the country. Eighteen sides set out their stall to make it through the rounds where two days of impressive netball were contested.
Oldham completed a remarkable run which saw them secure a perfect record across the two days of action.
Firstly, they topped Section F on Saturday morning with big victories over Lincoln City Netball Club (44-11) and Hucclecote Dragons (31-18).
They were not the only side to win two from two in the opening group stage as Yendys, Charnwood Rutland, MK Dons, Eagles and Barr Beacon all started their campaigns strongly.
One of the fixtures of the round was the Section B clash between MK Dons and YWCA Bury. A nail-bitingly close match ended in favour of MK Dons as they edged out their opponents 23-22.
In the afternoon session teams were rearranged according to their placings within their group.
Leeds Athletic, MK Dons, Eagles, Oldham, Charnwood Rutland and Hucclecote Dragons were the stars of the round, securing two wins from two. Charnwood Rutland, MK Dons, Eagles and Oldham closing their day with an 100% win rate.
The second day started with another regroup which saw Leeds Athletic, MK Dons and Oldham in group 1 and Charnwood Rutland, Eagles and Hucclecote Dragons in group 2 – all of which playing for 1 – 6 places.
After a strong final round Oldham and Eagles found themselves in the final with Oldham being the stronger of the two, winning 37-24.
Charnwood Rutland beat Leeds Athletic (20-27) which meant they secured a third place finish.
Oldham, Charnwood Rutland and Eagles were also top four teams at last year’s Finals.
