One year to go until the Netball World Youth Cup 2025: Looking ahead to Gibraltar

Thursday 19 September 2024 marks one year to go until the Netball World Youth Cup 2025 in Gibraltar.

The Netball World Youth Cup 2025 (NWYC2025) will take place from Friday 19 until Sunday 28 September in Gibraltar, with the World Netball Congress to take place ahead of the tournament on the 17 and 18 September.

Set to be the first NWYC to be played since 2017, after the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in the cancellation of the 2021 event planned to be held in Fiji, the tournament will showcase the world’s top 20 teams aged 21 and under. It will be held across two competition venues in Gibraltar – The Tercentenary Sports Hall and Europa Sports Park.

With just one year to go, teams across all competing nations are preparing for a closely fought and highly competitive tournament as they look to make their mark on the competition. The defending champions will be New Zealand, who topped the podium at the last NWYC, with Australia in second place and England finishing in third.

The competition provides an exciting opportunity for athletes on the Roses Pathway to compete on the international stage and as this important milestone is marked, Roses Pathway Head Coach Sonia Mkoloma commented on the journey to Gibraltar. She said: “It is one year today until we head to Gibraltar to watch the future players of our amazing game compete at the Netball World Youth Cup 2025.

“I remember the buzz around this event when I captained the U21s in 2000. There were tears, there was sweat, but what stood out most to me were the friendships that were formed almost 25 years ago and have lasted across sport and distance.

“I know the players will be excited and working hard to ensure they are physically prepared for what will be a memorable tournament.”

Over the course of the next year, excitement will continue to grow for the welcome return of this competition. In a bid to bring the event to more people than ever before World Netball has this cycle made the Netball World Cup social media channels the home of the NWYC too, bringing its two pinnacle events together. For more information and updates, make sure you are following on FacebookXInstagram and YouTube (@NetballWorldCup) and TikTok (@WorldNetball).
