The Vitality Roses had dominated Jamaica from the off in the previous group meeting but the two sides were evenly matched in a low-scoring opening to the fifth/sixth play-off.
Jamaica thought they’d go into the second half six points to the good thanks to an Amanda Pinkney six-pointer with under 10 seconds on the clock, but Sophie Kelly reduced the deficit by landing a four-pointer on the buzzer (14-16).
England were back on level terms at the start of the second half after goals from Sophie Egbaran and Kelly as both sides left everything out on court.
With 90 seconds on the clock, the Vitality Roses were 24-23 up but lost possession and a repeat of the end of the second quarter followed - a six-pointer from Pinkey then a four-pointer from Kelly meant it was only one point the difference heading into the final quarter (28-29).
The fourth quarter began in goal-for-goal fashion and the two sides were all square going into the decisive Power Play.
Paige Reed (with a four-pointer) and Harriet Jones were on target to put England out in front before a nervy finale as Pinkney had three attempts to nail a six-pointer that would have taken the win for Jamaica.
But the ball wouldn't land for Pinkney as Sonia Mkoloma's side secured a fifth-place finish at the FAST5 Netball World Series 2024, with Kelly scooping the Player of the Match award in the team's final game.
