'Roses Down Under' - Jo Harten's GIANTS march on as the league leaders defeat the 2020 champions

Round four of Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) took place over the weekend, with the ANZ Premiership entering its sixth round, and there were plenty of Vitality Roses involved across both competitions Down Under.

Geva Mentor was on form as Collingwood Magpies clinched a 68-65 win against Queensland Firebirds to lift them into the top four in Saturday’s opening fixture.

The Magpies recorded their first win of the campaign last weekend and were determined to sustain the momentum, with the three-point lead established in the third quarter proving crucial.

For the second consecutive game, West Coast Fever recovered from a disappointing start to power past Adelaide Thunderbirds 70-62.

Stacey Francis-Bayman began at goal-defence before switching to wing-defence in the second quarter as Fever controlled the match thereafter.

NSW Swifts were stifled by Sunshine Coast Lightning on Sunday as they slipped to a 58-54 defeat.

Helen Housby and Nat Haythornthwaite persisted against a robust defence but it wasn’t enough despite the Swifts holding a slender lead at halftime.

GIANTS Netball concluded the weekend’s action with a dominant 68-54 victory over the Melbourne Vixens as Jo Harten struck six ‘Super Shots.’

The league leaders won every quarter including a remarkable opening period where they restricted the Vixens to just eight goals.

In the ANZ Premiership, Southern Steel were beaten 60-50 by the Mainland Tactix in a difficult encounter on Monday.

George Fisher’s scored 42 goals before being taken off for the first time since making the move to New Zealand for the closing minutes.

Elsewhere, netball legend Ama Agbeze was an unused substitute in Northern Mystics’ 67-59 win at Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic.
