'Roses Down Under' - Mentor's 200th National League game spoiled by Harten's GIANTS

Round 10 of Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) took place over the weekend, with the ANZ Premiership entering its 13th round, and there were plenty of Vitality Roses involved across both competitions Down Under.

NSW Swifts continue to set the pace at the top of the table after they won 62-48 at Melbourne Vixens in Saturday’s first match.

Helen Housby’s side came firing out of the blocks and the scoreline could have been more emphatic were it not for the Vixens’ final-quarter fightback, while Nat Haythornthwaite impressed off the bench for the Swifts.

The third quarter proved decisive in Perth as Sunshine Coast Lightning inflicted a second consecutive defeat on West Coast Fever, taking it 65-61.

The 2020 runners-up were unbeaten before the previous round and were level at halftime here, but Lightning pulled away at a crucial moment to put Stacey Francis-Bayman’s team out of reach.

Vitality Roses legend Geva Mentor made her 200th National League appearance in Australia on Sunday as her Collingwood Magpies side suffered a 58-49 loss against GIANTS Netball.

Her England teammate Jo Harten was in excellent form for the GIANTS as she sunk 24 of her 27 shots to power them to an important victory in the battle for top four.

In the ANZ Premiership, George Fisher was back in the starting line-up and she helped steer Southern Steel to a gripping 61-58 win over Northern Mystics.

She played all 60 minutes of a crucial match at the top of the table, with her 95% shooting accuracy proving vital in tilting a tight game in Steel’s favour.

Fisher faced off against England legend Ama Agbeze, who featured at goal-keeper for the Mystics.
