George Fisher’s adventure in New Zealand began in extraordinary fashion as she helped power Southern Steel to a 54-36 victory over Mainland Tactix on the opening weekend of the 2021 ANZ Premiership season.
Making her debut for the club in front of a home crowd on Sunday night, the Vitality Rose was in formidable form under the post scoring 46 out her 49 shots and combined superbly with fellow new recruit Tiana Metuarau.
Fisher only linked up with her teammates for the first time a few weeks ago, but she slotted seamlessly into the attacking end as Steel defied the odds to earn an impressive win against last year’s grand finalists.
Steel’s next match is away to Northern Mystics, who could hand a debut to netball legend and 2018 Commonwealth Games winning captain Ama Agbeze, and the first centre pass will take place on Saturday 24 April at 06:15 (BST).
So what an experience. First game ☑️. First win ☑️ First time meeting the amazing @SteelNetball Fans ☑️ First hit out with this awesome squad ☑️ and wow Fans player of the match! Do weekends actually get better than this!💗💙 thank you so much for the amazing welcome. 😍😍
