Wasps Netball have confirmed that Fran Williams will be part of their Vitality Netball Superleague (VNSL) squad for the upcoming 2021 season.

Williams has won a league titles since she joined the club from Surrey Storm before featuring in the 2019 Grand Final.

The defender has been a key asset to the Midlands outfit for a number of years now and featured heavily before the 2020 season was cut short.

The 22-year-old is currently on tour with the Vitality Roses taking part in the Cadbury Netball Series against world champions New Zealand in Hamilton.

Despite her age, she has been made vice captain of the squad which just showcases how far the goal defence has come in such a short space of time.

Williams was a regular fixture for England at youth level, captaining her country at the Netball World Youth Cup in 2017, and made the 2019 Vitality Netball World Cup squad just two years later.

The youngster will be hoping to continue her develop on court in the VNSL with another full season under her belt next year.

Williams’ signing comes after the news that Roses Future Iona Christian had extended her stay with the club for a second season.

Youngsters Ally Housley, Ruth Hughes and Megan Thorne are also part of their VNSL squad as training partners and either represent the Roses Academy or U21 sides.

Wasps Netball’s confirmed squad is currently: Hannah Leighton, Ally Housley, Leah Goss, Megan Thorne, Ruth Hughes, Sophia Candappa, Katie Harris, Josie Huckle, Iona Chrsitian, Ella Powell-Davies, Amy Flanagan, and Fran Williams.
