Tameside win U16 Clubs Finals in thrilling finale

The 2017 National Clubs U16 Finals came to an incredible close on Sunday afternoon as Tameside overcame Eagles 30-26 in an extra-time finish.

Both sides had performed wonderfully over the weekend, each taking a perfect record into the final showdown.

For a long period of time Eagles looked like they would triumph, leading throughout the match until the final few minutes. A run of four straight goals took Tameside level in the dying embers of normal time.

The nerves were being felt on court and in the crowd as the spectators fell into an expectant hush. A quick start from Tameside saw them take control and they held off Eagles to claim the trophy.

It was just as exciting in the third place play-off as Leeds clung on in the final moment to break YWCA Bury hearts, defeating their North-West opponents 25-24.

Telstars completed the top five after securing a fine 35-25 victory over Telstars in their play-off encounter.

Hucclecote narrowly missed out on the groups competing for top spot but they ended the weekend in style by beating Crystal Palace NC 32-26 to claim 7th place.

A solid 9th place finish was in store for Oaksway as they took a 29-17 victory over Charnwood while Chevrons won a classic battle against Henley, clinching 11th position with a 21-20 success.

Weston Park Blades had a tumultuous weekend, finishing third place in one of the group stages despite finishing level on points with the top ranked team.

They kept their composure in their play-off clash to seal 13th spot with a 27-18 win against Ryland.

It was a good end to the tournament for Conquerors as a 24-14 victory against TTNC Spartans gave them 15th place.

A fabulous match-up saw Riverside take 17th position after a nail-biting 25-23 win over Lincoln City.
